Balto screamed and cried. Oh no, this wasn’t happening. His Benny was being ripped apart. Balto wanted to go after him but he couldn’t. It was too late. Benny was lying there on the floor bleeding. His arm was all chewed up, and he didn’t move. Balto tried to jump over the fence but he was too weak because of all the excitement. SO, instead, Jack jumped over to examine Benny and to see if he was ok. Jack went over to Benny’s body. He started to cry and then he walked back to Balto and said: “I think he’s dead.” “Oh no,” cried Balto. Jack went back to Benny. He put his hand on Benny’s chest to see if he was still breathing. Nothing at all. Benny wasn’t breathing or moving. He’s dead. Jack went back over to Balto, and he said nothing. He jumped back over the fence and tilted his head down. He slowly started to walk away. Balto went after him and started to walk beside him. “Is he okay; why did you leave him?” “No....,” said Jack, “he isn’t okay.” Is he…dead,” asked Balto? All Jack did was nod his head and they continued to walk in silence the rest of the way home. Jack, are you gonna be okay; what is Benny’s parents gonna say.” asked Balto? Jack said nothing and darted off so fast that it was as if he disappeared. Balto tried to run off after him, but Jack was no where in sight. Balto just stood there in silence. Then all of a sudden, he heard a big screech and then an explosion. Balto ran over in the direction it had come from. There was smoke everywhere, and Balto couldn’t see anything. Then the ambulance came and took whoever that was involved in that accident into the stretcher bed and into the ambulance. Oh no! It was Jack!
